Greetings One and All!
For those with a love of language, a joy in poetry and prose and a wicked
sense of humor...May I present to you an offering for the Bards among us.
Join us at KASF 2009 as we celebrate a great man and his love of poetry
while we have a smashing good time as well. This competition is scheduled
to begin at 11:00 AM and run till we're done!
The Duke Gyrth Oldcastle Memorial Poetry Challenge; "A Fistful of
Fabliaux"
Tired of those lofty lays that expand on courtly love? Interested in
hearing about cuckolds and lecherous priests and unchaste wives? Is your
curiosity piqued by Berenger Long Arse or The Priest who
Peeked? Then come to the 2nd annual Duke Gyrth Memorial Poetic Duel,
A Fistful of Fabliaux. The fabliaux are the (in)famous lascivious
tales from the 13th century. This year we take our pens into our
hands, and create either the traditional rhymed couplets or short prose
stories known as fabliaux, such as those with which the jongleurs in
northern France entertained nobles and peasants alike.
A GENTLE WARNING
Anyone is welcome to attend this competition and enjoy the telling of
these tales, but please keep in mind that the subject matter can be
inappropriate for gentles of a young age.
There are 3 rules:
1. You must write a poem in honor of Gyrth as your admission into the
competition. Didn't know him well? Ask around, there are plenty of
people who would love to tell you stories.
2. Your fabliau must be read or spoken aloud, and should be in English.
If you are driven to blush easily, pay someone else to read it for you.
3. Because size does indeed matter, your fabliau should not be longer than
100 lines.
If you want to participate, or if you have any questions, please contact
Mistress Ceridwen ferch Owain (Linda McLaughlin) at lgoldman05 at yahoo.com
or call 301.274.4171 NLT 10 pm please.
Kindly forward this to any list that you feel would be interested.
