As a member of the society, I have gone into more than a few classrooms and
taught high school students the basics of heraldry. As a student in this
class on Public Speaking, I would, in addition to creating the device for
the assignment, give a short presentation that includes the history and use,
and as you are teaching, build your device as part of the speech. Have
handouts with resources and a link to the Society webpage at the bottom (if
they are interested at all, we could get a few new members out of this
debacle.)

This approach will educate the teacher, the other students, and effectively
show the students that the teacher is wrong wrong wrong without even
confronting the instructor.
