Subject: [MR] [AtlantianHeralds] Heraldic Term of the Day - bezant

This was the one for Friday.

>From _An Heraldic Alphabet_ by J.P. Brooke-Little

"Bezant - Term applied to a roundel when it is gold. As bezants were

originally gold coins most textbooks state that they should not be shaded to

show relief but they sometimes are and I doubt whether any great solecism is

committed. The term "talent" means a bezant but is seldom, if ever, used."

Bonus points. Who can tell us the names assigned to the other tinctures of

roundels?
