his excellency responded to me personally ( i still loathe the fact that
hitting reply on this list sends only to the poster) and said that he meant
add 3' per side.  my guess would be that we should indeed cross guy ropes.
no reason not to and at the end of the day the amount of space saved is
pretty significant.  anyway, just my opinion.

Are crossing ropes allowed? If so, that could reduce the footprint needed. 
(I don't know whether they are or not, so there are probably others out 
there who could use this information.)
