Yesterday at Feast and Foolishness in Highland Foorde I sponsored a
heraldry competition known as Heraldic Twister/Heraldic Postures. As
you know, in heraldry animals were depicted in specific poses, or
postures. We had close to 20 people come forward to demonstrate these
postures for all assembled. Rampant, courant, naiant, displayed, you
name it, they did it! Some used props, we had someone on crutches,
facial expressions and hand positions to help emphasize the position.
Points were awarded for style and accuracy. Master Herveus, Master
Evan, Lady Thyra, and I served as judges. Lady Nina Amaya of Bright
Hills, also known as Nina the Fool, ultimately won the prize (a mug
from Eadric the Potter's booth) with her excellent depiction of
tergiant (think of a frog splayed on the road). Don Andrew came in a
very close second. The final round of the competition involved various
fish postures... and all those involved did swimmingly well!
It was so difficult to figure out who had the best posture - everyone
involved in the activity did so well. We even had a few very young
folks involved. Everyone really seemed to enjoy themselves. Thank you
so much to everyone who participated and helped to make the event so
much fun!
