[MR] Oldest Atlantian Membership number

But you DO know that the numbers on the cards, at least for most of those
who joined in the first 14-15 years of the Society do not reflect the actual
"seniority" of the member, don't you?

It is a "fun amusement", but slightly ruined by the fact that at least most
of us got new identifying designators back when they put the (in)famous "new
computer system" in back in the early 1980's. I don't remember the
rationale used for assigning the numbers (which since have remained more or
less constant if you did not let your membership lapse), but suspect that
they were based on alphabetical order by mundane last name since my mundane
last name is Wimett and my membership number is now 8435.

Rebecca,
There are a number of active Atlantian's with low end 4 digit numbers and I
believe maybe even one or two Altantians with a three digit number. One of
my favorite activities as Crusades' reservationist was watching out for
really really low membership numbers.
