I have caught whiffs of this issue over the life of the "scandal". Scandal
can be an inflammatory word so I use it after consideration. Was it the word
I should use to represent what I have seen, experienced and felt?Any of the
below definitions fit what has been taking place concerning the Atlantian
"Great Matter".

Like dear King Henry's "Great Matter" there were no true winners and no one
was completely satisfied with the outcome. Lives were destroyed, heads
rolled, political landscape changed, there was an shift in theological thinking,
the ethical moral status quo was challenged, and the way legal courts were
conducted changed. There were some revolutionary changes that have benefited us
till this day as well.

Fortunately for us, I do not believe anyone will really lose their head.
However, everyone will be touched in some way and we have lost some of our
innocence. Hopefully we will learn from this "scandal" that has made many people
look bad regardless or guilt, motivation, intention, or side of issue.

Disclaimer: I in no way imply that any crimes have taken place or not taken
place by the below statement.

I hope we as a society will remember that alleged criminal behavior should
be reported even if it embarrasses the SCA. We have avoided no embarrassment
after all the muck from the issue has now been circulated about. Why not
let our REAL legal system deal with these things from the start. We should
respect people who do report these incidents to the police and not harass, judge,
or pressure them.

It is much easier for the BOD to make an objective decision with the
judgement of a criminal court as evidence. This has been done in the past with
murder and child molestation cases. We have learned from those cases as well.
Remember that while our BOD does have a lot of lawyers on it, they are not
professional judges. Society wide banishment for life is a big deal and
should be a transparent process where all parties are notified and given
opertunity to respond at each stage.

As for poor conduct unbecoming to position, but not constituting a crime, we
have peerage forums where people can be stripped of titles and honors. It
would them be up to that person if they wished to remain among the people that
sanctioned them. Additional step could be taken if behavior remained
offensive or they could have a chance to redeem themselves.

Police yourselves, but once a crime is in question let the police handle it.
Of course, I always recommend first asking the person to stop the behavior
directly before taking it to a peer or a friend.

Respectfully,
Lady Lora Leigh
