just a quick update.

first, thank you to those that contacted us and shared their personal
experiences.

lou is doing fine and didnt even notice her first shot of vetsulin. the vet
was very pleased with the amount of information i was able to provide her
and is confident after talking with me for me to handle her bgl curve study
from home. we have her on a single dose of insulin daily and her bgl is
already dropping. she seems a bit more alert and not nearly as lethargic as
she was this morning. the vet had no issues with her diet and i will get
the results of her complete blood panel tomorrow. everything else checked
out fine (we had them do an extensive physical). she had some ketones in
her urine but those levels were not too bad. so, all in all, she is a
healthy 11 year old puppy. im testing her bgl four times a day until we
have her dosage down to a science (much like her daddy).

again, thanks!

regards

logan

sorry about the off topic post.

so, ive been a type 1 diabetic for 21 years. we have an 11 year old dog
(well, mine for the last year) that is a little lethargic, drinks lots of
water, has some skin issues. she also has a dry mouth and doesnt gain
weight. well, being a diabetic i was thinking about whether this was an age
thing or, perhaps, something i can relate to (back before i gained total
control over my diabetes many many years ago). a dogs bgl is between 60 and
120 mg/dl. so i tested lou's sugar tonight (using a lip prick) and the
first reading was 515, the second was 525. just to be sure i tested two of
our other dogs using my glucometer, the first one was 65 and the second was
52. so, i think i have a control (x2) and a test.

if anyone is currently treating a type 1 diabetic dog i would really
appreciate an email.

regards
