Dr. Wright, I am unsure what part of our post led you to assume that we would not be taking our dog to the vet immediately or that we might give human medications to her. NO WHERE in the email does it mention us medicating her with Logan's insulin! I can assure you I am aware of the luxury/privlige of pet ownership. We have four dogs and a cat currently. The dog is question, Lou Lou, has been my "child" for 10 years. She was an abused rescue that I have worked long and hard to rehabilitate. She has survied her abuse, being hit by a car, and a ugly bout with HGE. She has NEVER been kenneled or been an outside dog in the 10 years I have had her. She stays with me and if I am out of town she stays with my mother. No one else. Her health has changed recently and considreing her age this is expected. We talked about the changes in behavior last night and the changes in her condition and Logan stated that they were very similar to someone with an elevated blood sugar level and he decided to test her. When we determined how high it was, we sent the email in the hopes of getting information. The FIRST phone call we made this morning was to a vet and she will be seen as soon as the vet comes in from dealing with her sick child. We often seek guidance from friends/elist/etc in the SCA because we consider it an excellent resource of people and information. We can now take the information we have received, add to it the research we have done on the internet since last night, and compare it to what the vet says. In other words, we can do the same thing with Lou Lou's bloodsugar issue that we do when one of us has a medical problem and sees a doctor. I understand that as a vet you have seen horrible situations and this is something very dear to your heart. However, before you respond to a "need info" post in the future, please make sure you understand what the person is looking for and do not assume things. If nothing else, respond privately and not publically. I do not appreciate your implication that we would abuse our animals in any way. Regards, HRH EsaMeredith McDaniel
