[MR] Need wood carving recommendations

Greetings all,

Much good advice has already been posted, my 2 ducats...

Your tools must be sharp!  Almost none are sufficiently sharpened at the 
factory or forge, and those that are generally have a generic bevel that may 
not be suitable for the type of wood or carving you are doing.  But 
regardless of how sharp they start out, they get too dull fast.  Don't 
expect to spend a day carving without stopping to sharpen several times. 
Remember a dull blade is far more dangerous than a sharp blade.

The best system (IMO) for honing carving tools is the so called "Scary 
Sharp" which uses adhesive sand paper on plate glass (or another very flat 
surface) rather than stones. Two good  versions can be found at:
