Our camcorder is a Flip; it's not very big, and ours came in a little velveteen drawstring purse -- ready-made medieval disguise, I suppose! ;-) But it'd be easy to make some other pouch or container, based on whatever period you're trying to go for, and small enough to conceal in your hands.
See http://tinyurl.com/yghqsxq for several of the Flips on the market. They're pretty easy to use, don't take up much space (about 3" x 6"), and are pretty affordable too. Not the best-quality video, but we're pretty happy with ours. (It's not exactly high-quality video, but it does a reasonably good job.)
