Yes, this discussion got WAY off topic very quickly. The original post 
was not AT ALL questioning whether dogs should or should not be allowed 
at events, or even the "fairness" or reasoning behind such decisions. 
She merely requested that it be clearly stated in the event announcement 
if animals are or are not allowed.

She also stated that she was new to the SCA, so was still learning her 
way around. We SHOULD NOT assume that everyone knows that "dogs are 
generally not allowed unless the announcement says they are". Even a 
long-time member new to the Kingdom may have had different experiences 
in prior Kingdoms.

It seems to me that to simply and clearly state, in the event 
announcement (and on the event website), YES, dogs are allowed, or NO, 
dogs are not allowed, would be quite easy to do, and would be a kindness 
to those in the OP's position.

And wouldn't doing so also be more in keeping with the ideals of the 
Society?
