When I was a Baronial Seneschal I will always remember that one of the very
first requests that was submitted to me by a local Countess was to PLEASE if
at all possible encourage the event stewards to allow dogs (animals) to
attend baronial events. I did, during that time and the events that I have
been the steward of we have had two problems. One was back from the vet
with bill settled before I was 'fyi'd and the other was dealt with in a
whole two min conversation. If there were any other issues they were never
considered worth mentioning to me.
Granted I may just be lucky! :) But when I consider the number of animals
who attended those events versus the problems - I still have no issues
allowing animals to attend any event that I am steward of as long as the
site allows pets. It allows more people to attend the event with less
hassels making arrangements to go. So I give my voice to those asking that
if at all possible for event stewards to consider allowing animals to attend
when possible.
I am slightly more biased now on this matter as I have recently gotten a
small dog which will be accompanying me to events as often as possible. I
have been a part of the SCA for many years now and understood completely the
effect of owning a dog will have on my ability to attend certain events. I
accept that, and just hope that more event stewards will be open minded and
take on the 'risk' of allowing animals and that more owners will be
responsible owners regarding their puppies. (Hey there are neat little
containers with 'doggie bags' that attach right to your dog's leash at
Wal-Mart! I got one with the SCA specifically in mind! :)
