My family and I are "newbies" and "animal people" and attended Sapphire, so I thought I'd a drop a comment. I love seeing the dogs at the events since as previously stated...we're dog people. That being said, I undertsand why banning dogs from events (especially large one) is necessary. In an age where law suits pop up like daisies there seems little other choice. However, I do think we can trust the folks who run the individual events to know what works and what doesn't work for them. My suggestion to my fellow newbies is to do what I do when I'm unsure of some rule or policy, ask/email the event organizers. I have yet to find someone who wasn't kind and glad to help. I realize that we are trying to establish policy here but I think it would be hard to make some general rule to apply to all events.
