[MR] Permanent Site....

A’right folks, here’s another two pence from me-

Baroness Adeliza has a very valid point…. There are more pros than cons in this
regard. Yes, merchants have to deal with
lugging their stuff to the same event regularly. Yes, those of us here in the southern tip of
the Kingdom have to drive farther. BUT,
we drive farther anyway, as the severe lack of sites affordable enough to do
something down here is an issue. When I look for sites to do the larger
events, such as University, or Unevent, or 12th Night, I’m looking
at between 1500 and 2000 for just one day. I know none of the groups here in Hidden Mountain can put that kind of
outlay for an event, especially for some such as Unevent and University that
have minimal, if any, recompense.
I personally would LOVE to see these events held in my
backyard, but sadly, it’s financially near impossible to do so. This last weekend was my first trip to BJP,
and I enjoyed myself. The hikes and
hills were not as bad as some of the sites down here, and there was plenty of
space to do most everything indoors if needed. I do agree with the point that someone else made in regards to the risk
of a bad autocrat treating a site owner poorly. But, we have that risk with any site we have, whether it be one that is
used by the same host group every time, (Such as WoW, or Assesments), or a site
like Kings Mountain, which this month may have Hidden Mountain, and three
months from now have Brockore Abbey. No
matter WHAT we do, every autocrat, and every member, has to look at how we
represent the Society as a whole. HOPEFULLY, issues of a bad Autocrat are few and far between.
Getting back to the original topic, I personally see no harm
in setting one site for these events for the immediate future. As was mentioned, this is not suggested as a
permanent solution, but a temporary band-aid, if you will, for a wound that has
been bleeding the kingdom for a very long time. Like any large open wound, the band-aid isn’t going to last long, and more
permanent measures will need to be taken.
If the Kingdom Bid Deputy is having problems getting bids,
then we have to look at why. Why are
folks not turning in bids? Have they been
rejected in the past, and why? Have they
just determined that they want to enjoy the events, without the work inherent
in such? If that is the case, then those
folks have no right, rhyme, or reason to be complaining when they may have to
drive 6 hours to an event. Another point
was made, “Those who want to serve, will find ways to.” I agree with this statement wholeheartedly as
well. If folks really want to HOST an
event, but are unable to find a site, then having a site pre-determined, should
eliminate a LOT of the hassle involved in putting the bid together. Once you HAVE the site, then it’s only a
matter of securing the staffing that you need, and getting confirmations that
what you need will be there.
And yet another point made, overall, it SHOULD theoretically
inspire more cooperation and unity within the Kingdom. As spread out as this kingdom is, if you have
groups working together to put events on, the more we get to know our slightly
farther out neighbors, meaning more friends we haven’t met yet.
Yes, Crown Tourney and Coronation are requirements to ensure
the future of the Kingdom. BUT, ALL
events are required to continue to live this Dream we all share.

Yes, it was long and rambling, and for that I apologize….

But there you have my thoughts as they stand currently….
 Until the next,
Yours in service,
