in all fairness, its hard not to examine what the other guy is doing if hes
throwing shaving cream pies at you.  i dont think kind of behavior is fair
to those uninterested in being part of it.  i know that i wouldnt take too
kindly to that being done to me.  i think most people have simply opined
that there are plenty of enjoyable and appropriate activities available in
the sca for folks from all walks of life to try out.  simply because
something was a "valid occupation" in history doesnt make it right for our
organization.  i mean, street walking was certainly a valid way to make
money back then but its not appropriate for the sca.  same as creating an
atmosphere around oneself that suggests they are above the common doctrines
of acceptable behavior or the law (pirates and assassins for example).  i
think your friend should look at some of the plethora of examples for
personas after visiting many many events and meeting many many people.

Look I am not saying that half the Society should be assassins, and the
games should only be with participating players, but assassin is a valid
occupation through out history.  Should we get rid of the Combat archers
because fighters don't like getting taken by bowmen?  Yeah right, like that
will happen.  It's a game people.  An amazingly addictive and all
encompassing game, but still a  game.   I mean a  complaint about garb
getting ruined by shaving cream?  Who hasn't had mead or part of feast trash
their garb?  And what about our wonderful Southern Red Clay?  Maybe people
just need to not be so freakin' up tight and pissy about EVERYTHING.  

Besides last time I checked assassins had to live regular lives between
jobs, so they don't have to be taking people out constantly.

Quit examining what every one else is doing; live and let live.  Middle Ages
as the should have been.....according to who?
