[MR] Assassins

While I was in Aethelmearc, one of the newcomers to the Stronghold asked if he could be a slaver. I told him that unless he wanted to see the scorn of a goodly amount of the populous and much grief at events to reconsider that particular occupation; even if he managed to convince some ladies to "go along with it".
I have to admit though, I do miss those events where there was a game of "friendly assissination", those who wished to participate were given asticker at troll and when they tired of the game, they took it off. Thing is, once it was off, no assassinations were to be done by that person, nor were they to be assassinated. At one event, they had the rule, once the sticker was off, that was the end of the game for you. I think they were also given stickers of a different color from the one they were wearing and it was logged as to who got which color, so that when that person "assasinated" someone, there was a sticker there, so no stones, peas, interesting liquids, etc... were part of the game.
But like the ninjas, a "known" or advertized assassin was a dead assassin. All assassins has a "face" (alternate persona/job) to "hide" his true occupation. At events DO get with the autocrat FIRST before playing that particular game though.

I remember those days all too well -- my first "job" in the SCA (in the days when there were just four kingdoms) was using my persona as a Germanic priest to prevent poisonings by carving protective runes in peoples' styrofoam cups (things were simpler then).
I am happy those days of looking for a marble in my drink are behind me, and do not look forward to their return. While this person may want to be an assassin, I doubt anyone else wants to be assassinated and it takes two to tango. Does he expect that the constables of the Society will arrest him whenever the Crown in nearby? If he pursues assassinations as they were formerly done in the SCA, he will more likely find himself on the receiving end of some blunt conversation that he will not enjoy and may find himself unwelcome from events and, I daresay as a multiple time former seneschal, he may find himself asked to leave events -- I don't think that's what he wants.
This new member should be advised to seek out another persona.

You're friend could have some fun with this...alas, so many people have forgotten the old games we used to play.
Anyone remember the game where you could "poison" someone? You slipped a rock into their drink and if they drank before noticing the rock, they'd been poisoned.
Usually a dose of Irish Mist was enough to bring them back from the brink.
I was pretty good at it. Ask Liam.
