[MR] Assassins

I guess I'm wondering what having an assassin persona would mean on a day to
day basis within the SCA. My thought is, not much. Mostly what our
personas influence is our choice of dress and accessories, what kind of
armor we have, that sort of thing.

Granted that "period" in an SCA context encompasses a lot of diverse times
and places, I'm not aware of any culture in which hired killers dressed in
some particular way so as to mark them out. (I'm reminded of the Addams
Family movie where Wednesday dresses for Halloween in her normal clothes
because she's going as a homicidal maniac, and they look just like everybody
else.) Also, it would be counterproductive for an assassin to run around
telling everyone that he's an assassin, or wearing some kind of identifiable
'Assassin's Guild' insignia. The SCA is not recreating Discworld or D&D.

My advice to your newcomer is that he should attend a few events and see how
SCA play actually takes place and then make a decision about persona. A lot
of us have initial ideas about persona that we eventually discard when we
get more experience in the Society.
