Nevertheless there are plenty of documented cases. Particularly among the 
upper classes that *didn't* go fighting on a regular basis.

Which really makes them no different from many modern day professional 
athletes... and for all practical purposes, tournament fighting was the 
big professional spectator sport of its era.
