I spend a lot of time studying Tudor dynastic history so I am very aware
how the show has varied from real history. I have given up on
authenticity, but I still enjoy the show. However, I am not as aware of the garb
standards and court practices as some people would be.

I have a nagging question.....

I keep noticing that the Ladies-in-Waiting are often dressed like a group
of modern bridesmaids in the same dress and accessories. Was this done in
period? Was there a Lady-in-Waiting uniform out side of normal sumptuary
laws. I found something about Elizabeth may be having some tradition of
uniformity, but no court portraits or paintings show this.

I do realize that asking some historic costumers about what you see in the
Showtime Series the Tudors can be dangerous. Because skilled historic
costumers have lots of needles and sharp scissors when fitting garb I have
learned not to ask these questions when they are fitting my clothes. An
agitated, animated seamstress with pins is a dangerous thing!

Other Laurels and learned scadians have been know to go into apoplectic
fits when discussing Hollywood's take on costuming period films/shows. So
please forgive me if this question makes you blue in the face.

Regards,
Lora Leigh
