[MR] Crown Location

Since Atlantia is so long and narrow........ Why can't there be two sites?

It would be much easier to secure two appropriate sites (it is still a yearly date even with two sites), with a contract that could be years in advance, and it would mean that all the groups wanting to put on Crown would be able to pick a time where the drive was manageable (making staffing easier).  This answers the problem of not being able to find a site and dose not make it so far away from 1/2 the Kingdom that they would think twice about hosting the event at all.  If we start requiring the bids to be submitted a year in advance too, the "who will host" problem will be solved and not needing to find a site will make the advanced bids easier and more attractive.

That is very very true.

I
can attest that several kingdom events have been held in the Caer Mear
area over the last couple of years simply because there were no other
bids and we stepped up to help out, usually after a deadline had
passed.

As to the comment that we should have one Crown a year
in Richmond - good luck with that. Finding a site that requires all
that the SCA has decided is neccessary as base minimium coupled with
insurance hikes have made it extremely difficul to find sites in the
central VA area to begin with. I would wager that a set contract would
help in some regards though.

...We used to have events in fields
for cripes sake...these days the laundry list of things needed for a
successful bid makes many sites undesirable. I know that we have
recently looked for both Coronation and Crown and have been unable to
find sites that meet the needs of the Kingdom.

I'm not a hugh
fan of Besty-Jeff or of making it a twice a year Crown site (I would
prefer to see Crown and all Kingdom events rotate throughout the
Kingdom, but I am very aware at just how difficult that process has
proven to be over the last several years) but you have to admit that it
is new thinking on a very old problem, and might be a solution that we
all can come to embrace.
