[MR] and now the business stuff starts

one clarification, the $500 fee for breaking the contract isnt anything set
in stone nor is it a written policy from the site. it was simply a number
that the director and i threw out there during our informal discussion.
also, the only reason crown (in this case) would be moved to another site
would be at the request of the heirs which would give the site around 6
months to find another renter. this site has very few weekends that are not
booked so there is a reasonable expectation that the site would find a
replacement for us. additionally, the fee (if applicable) would have to be
covered by the replacement site for that session of crown. one would expect
that the only reason the heirs would desire moving the site would be to try
out a better site with lower costs and greater attendance. with so many
"what-ifs" we should also throw in the "what-ifs" to deal with any negative
issues arising from such a move. nonetheless, in a worst case scenario (no
replacement renter and both sets of heirs want to move it) someone still has
to come up with $1000. while thats certainly not a lot of money it would
ultimately fall on the backs of those attending by way of increased gate
fees. again, with a multiyear contract we could probably move on that fee
structure. if it were half of that amount i think that the worst case
scenario ending up with a $500 hit is much more palatable. we are all
struggling with non concrete numbers and that makes it tough. perhaps i
should call the director and throw some actual conditions out there like
twice a year for four years with the option to pick up another four years.
this would give us a more definitive pricing and fee structure for sure. i
just dont want to waste a lot of his time without enough support from the
kingdom.

personally my main concern would simply be increasing attendance at crown
which historically isnt that high. with a multiyear contract we would
certainly have some area to move on the price but if attendance isnt around
the 250 - 300 mark we risk having a more steep fee at the gate. it would be
nice to know the attendance numbers for, say, the last 10 crown lists (hint
hint) and the cost at the gate for each of them.

My initial reaction to the idea of a permanent site was strongly mixed. But
one thing that might tilt the scales for me is reducing the initial contract
to a lesser number of years. To be locked in to one site or a possible
$1000-a-year fine* seems rather risky until we know how a permanent site
will actually work out.

Some folks have said that other kingdoms do this - has anyone on this List
been in a kingdom that does, and how did that work out for your group while
you were there?

* Please note that I wrote "possible". I understand the 'if they can't book
something else that weekend' clause.
