Good Gentles,
I think it is important to keep several things in mind with this proposal.
1) This is only for Crown Tournaments. There are still opportunities for
groups all over Atlantia to bid on Coronations, Universities, Kingdom Arts
and Science Festivals, Twelfth Nights, Unevents, and possibly even TOC. This
would only take 2 of the 10 events out of rotation. And even then, if your
group can plan a bid that is accepted a year in advance, the $500 deposit
will likely be returned as the site has plenty of opportunites to find
another group for that weekend.
2) Certainly the ideal is to rotate events all over the Kingdom, but that is
far easier said that done. University is one of the main institutions that
readily attempts to rotate around the kingdom. The problems that arise are
that during a hypothetical Northern slated session, there may be no bids
received, and the Southern and Central groups assume it is the North's so
they don't bother putting together bids. This has led to some sessions being
canceled due to lack of a bid.
Coronations and Crowns both have to happen for the continuity of the
Kingdom, and can be pulled together closer to last minute. University
doesn't have that luxury since once the bid is accepted there is still the
need to accept proposals for classes, and give students time to register.
We'd rather not have to have any events pulled together at the last minute,
and this proposal removes 2 events from that unfortunate possibility.
3) There is certainly nothing that says once this central site is
established, that a semi-permanent southern and northern sites can't follow
and get added into the mix as time goes by. We could see this as simply a
limited contract to test the idea of a semi-permanent site.
4) Another good facet of choosing Crown for this test is that those who wish
to vie for the crown are usually willing to travel. King Logan VI has fought
and won at least half the time north of I-64. Galmr's last win was in SC,
Robert de Rath traveled the East-West length of NC to win, Valharic won just
South of I-64 in the middle of Virginia, etc. If someone is determined to
fight in Crown, the distance doesn't seem to matter to them.
It is important to take into consideration how this proposal will affect all
groups certainly, but also think how it might help the Kingdom as a whole
too. The idea may not be perfect, but it does bear further consideration.
And it will also remove a small burden from our Event Bid Coordinator to
them focus on an attempt to rotate the rest of the Kingdom Events.
It is a very interesting idea Your Majesty, and I think worth a test for a
few years to see both how it works and how it affects the Kingdom as whole.
