The deuces you say!  ;)  I grew-up in the Society (without parents  
around), and I assure you that up through the early 80s, a large  
percentage of them things led to some serious activity.  Of course,  
that was before the AIDS epidemic took off and Nancy Reagan started  
seriously campaigning about Safe Sex and all that...

Whether refusal was "supposed" to be respected or not, it was always  
an *incredibly* awkward situation that could and did lead to dashed  
expectations and strained feelings on a few observed occasions.
