To all, sorry fro the spelling. Slip of the flying fingers. Yes it should have been Gentles.
I am looking for a more historical design and not a modern one.

Greetings, Edward.
Firstly, I am pretty certain that the term you intended to use in your opening was "Gentles."
"Gentiles" is a term used by Jews to identify those who are not Jews. And some other religions use it in a similar manner.
Now as to your question.
Are you looking to make something historical in appearance, or do you simply want something practical?
If the latter, I'd recommend you go find a military duffle bag. They have knapsack-type straps and are long enough to fit weapons so long as they aren't pole-arm length. I used to use one to carry my whole kit, when it was less bulky than it has become.
Your servant aye

Gentiles,
I am looking for a design for a back pack that might have been used for carrying
fighting gear or other necessities during a fighting campaign. It can be
leather, cloth, or reed/wicker/split oak or ash, etc. Preferably it needs to be
able to support a good bit of weight and be somewhat comfortable.
With thanks, Edward
