The Bright Hills Clothier's Guild Presents a Series of Tudor Gown Classes....
TUDOR OVERVIEW - Friday, 10/31 at Christ the King Church, Baltimore, MD (7:30-9:30 pm)
In preparation for the Tudor-themed 12th Night in Stafford, VA, I will be giving an overview of Tudor Gowns.
TUDOR BODICE CLASS - Sunday, 11/2 at my house in Abingdon, MD (12-5 pm)
We will begin work on your Tudor bodice. This class is for ladies who can sew and read a pattern relatively well. We will help you with fit and construction, but basic sewing skills will be assumed. In preparation for this class, I encourage you to make a corset first. This is more period and will allow you to make other late period clothing. If you do not want to do this step, the bodice can be boned for support, but is less period. If you choose to do the corset, the website below has a custom corset generator pattern and is a good, easy first corset. Go to the website http://www.elizabethancostume.net/ and click on "Costume Patterns", then click on "Custom Corset Pattern Generator." Follow all instructions. For proper boning, you can use Riglene from Joann Fabrics, but this stuff doesn't keep it's shape. I would recommend ordering steel boning from http://lacis.com/catalog/catalog.html or http://granndgarb.com/. If you don't have time to
order online, you can use in a pinch, the metal pieces from the hanging pentaflex green folders. Usually two of these wrapped in electrical tape works really well, plus you can cut them to the size you need with tin snips. If you choose to make the corset, you will need to have it done by 11/2, so the bodice can be fitted over this. Bring snacks/drinks because this class is the most time-consuming!
TUDOR SLEEVE CLASS AND ACCESSORIES - Sunday, 12/7 at my house in Abingdon, MD (12-5 pm)
Bring your corset and bodice and we will cut out and construction oversleeves and foresleeves to be attached to the bodice. Skirt construction, headgear and other accessories will be shown and discussed. Needed patterns will be distributed.
