To be sure, Samhain predates Christianity, though in large parts of Europe,
Christianity predates "period." But Druids? They were suppressed by the
Romans, and were largely gone by the 2nd C--before "period."
We rapier fighters are very sensitive to the problems of a discontinuous
tradition.
