Greetings
to the many folk who do receive this missive from Gisela event
steward of the recent War of the Wings III,

I
suspect the water tables of Atlantia were grievously depleted
yesterday as caravans returned home and showers and hot soaking baths
took priority. I also suspect there is quite a lot of unpacking left
to do that will be done . . . later.

In
the days of harvest plenty, as we prepare for the chill of winter,
laying in those stores we need to survive the long cold nights till
the sun comes back to us and war returns as surely as the flowers
will bloom upon the castle's fields, we gathered at Elchenburg Castle
this weekend.

I
know, personally, of representatives from Aethelmearc and the Mid
besides many from all corners of our own fair Atlantia. Finally we
count 716 adults and 110 minors on site. The weather was grand,
nearly perfect and the companionship was completely so.

I
would like to thank Their Majesties Jason and Gerhild for making time
for our event, to come and help settle our roiling conflict. Few
people who were fortunate enough to witness it will forget the Queen
as Siege engine . . . or Bowling for Rapiers . . . Years from now I
will not remember how tired I was on Saturday afternoon or how badly
my feet ached on Sunday evening. But I will surely remember the
vision of my Queen lobbing bright yellow boulders into the midst of
flashing swords and nattily dressed rapier fighters.

 I
wish to recognize Their Majesties' head retainer Baroness Astrid who
made preparing for Their Majesties' visit to our lands a matter of
joy.

Thanks,
also, to Their Excellencies Black Diamond Roussel Tavernier and Gayla
atte Blacwoulfe and Their Excellencies Sacred Stone Marc and Alienor
for Their support of our efforts and gracious kind words to me and my
staff.

Many
people made a point of finding me to compliment me on a beautiful
event. Allow me, please, to clarify that as event steward I was
simply blessed with a marvelous staff and frankly it showed in the
responses of the populace. My staff, as a unit, pulled together to
make this event a collection of glorious memories for everyone.

Also
I wish to thank the many folks who attended this event. The
willingness of these folks to work together, to help when and where
they could, strangers as well as friends, they made all the work
worthwhile. The joy in people's faces, the smiles and laughter, the
conversations and beauty, generosity and patience . . . it's why I do
this. Why many of us do.

I
would ask a boon of you who attended . . . send me an e-mail and tell
me what we did right and what we can do better next year. When we're so
close to something as we've been to this event it is a great advantage
to be able to see the event through other people's eyes. Please do this
off list to me privately at Scribe0002 AT aol DOT com

Realizing
this is a risky move and not diminishing anyone's service one iota, I
wish to specifically recognize Fergus Fletcher and his lady wife Lady
Clara Luchenbach (formerly known as Lady Eva Laou) and a good lady I
know only as Nina.

Of
these three individuals only Clara was on the staff...she coordinated
the A&S classes for WoW, decorated the Castle for the Bardic
Circle on Saturday evening and coordinated the hospitality for it as
well. Then on Sunday she worked the entire day . . . leaving site
only after it was policed, stakes pulled, garbage collected and lost
and found organized.

Her
lord husband, Fergus, moved tables, chairs and garbage all weekend
long. He broke down pavilions without being asked and simply worked
until the work was done. Remember, he was not on staff. He forfeit a
great deal of his expected playing on the archery range to serve this
event. Always with a smile and always deflecting thanks.

Nina,
came to me to ask how she could help with the event. Realizing that
the privy steward had been injured she took on the task of
maintaining the farmhouse bathrooms without hesitation. Let me tell
you there are few jobs more important and less fun then cleaning the
bathrooms.

I
know many good folk. I was honored to have such a good staff and so
many volunteers sitting gate, running errands, helping the
waterbearers and picking up trash. But more then that, there are
moments when we witness great courtesy in the spirits of others.
Moments which remind us why we play this game, why we drive for many
hours to take hours to set up camp in the dark to sleep in chilly
fields . . . and why we love it. Thank you all for bringing those moments to this event . . . and to my life.

Thank
you all and see you all again next year!!!!!
