It would be good to remind folks that this is a DRY site.

TnT, that fall tradition in northern Atlantia, is just four weeks away, October 24-26. Haven't made your reservation yet? Contact our reservationist, Lord Magnus MacTagart (William Becker), 472 Winterberry Dr., Edgewood, MD 21040. Email: William_Becker at hotmail.com, telephone: (410) 676-5795.This year's title, "Treaties Not Turks," reflects the theme of Constantinople at the beginning of the First Crusade. No need to make special garb (unless you're looking for an excuse). You can come as your personna, since Constantinople is a very cosmopolitan place, with nationality represented. We are giving prizes for the person traveling furthest (in modern miles) to attend the event, and to the person whose personna has traveled the farthest to reach Constantinople. The "Queen of Cities" offers a wide variety of entertainment, including shopping, feasting (this is a Bright Hills event), and classes, for both adults and children. Some of the classes for children include Viking Wire Weaving and beginning embroidery, as well as time to try a castle puzzle and an original board game. Adult classes will include Wool Felting and Beading. After the feast, we plan to offer spaces for dancing and a bardic circle. There will also be many venues for competition. For those of a martial bent, there will be tournaments in the heavy, rapier, archery, and equestrian disciplines, with baronial champions to be chosen in each. Artisans may display their progress toward the "Fifty for 50 years" challenge, or compete in one of three contests, from among whom the baronial artisan will be chosen:1. Mother and child, in any medium, documentation preferred; 2. An item used by a Crusader, or about the Crusades, documentation will get extra consideration, and3. Fabulous Fibula* -- in honor of the Constantinople's Greek heritage. The possibilities are many: bronze, silver, or gold, enameled, semi-precious stones, glass, coral or bone. There will be a prize for the adult and one for the child (12 and under) entering the best fibulae -- (fibula is singular). You may enter either a pair suitable for a woman' s gown -- the chiton — or a set of three, including an additional larger pin for the himation, (a simple cloak wrap). There must be a minimum of two fibulae, the style may be of any era up to 1600, and minimal documentation is required. (Children may disguise suitable safety pins.) Questions go to ingeborg_sca at yahoo.com.We will have a special brewing competition, as well as selecting a baronial brewer, from among the entrants in a contest for SCA PERIOD NON-ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES (since our event site is Bone Dry). You do not have to compete for Baronial Brewing Champion to participate. This year's competition rules are:1) Each contestant must submit a minimum of THREE (3) different period beverages. You may include additional flavors of the same beverage BUT you must enter a minimum of THREE DIFFERENT period beverages.2) Documentation is required for all beverages entered. Your documentation should include, but is not limited to:Description of your beverageCountry of originTime periodThe Period recipe and your redactionDescription of how you made the beverage and the tools you usedIngredientsBibliography3) Each container MUST have a tag that gives the NAME OF THE BEVERAGE and the INGREDIENT LIST of that beverage.4) Extra points will be given for display of the entry.Prizes will be awarded for-BARONIAL BREWING CHAMPIONBEST IN SHOWBEST DISPLAYBEST DOCUMENTATIONThose with questions about the brewing contest should contact Mistress Martelle von Charlottenburg, Baroness of Bright HillsWe will also have a bardic competition, including selection of the baronial bard.
