[MR] Non-paid reservations ... Re: Paying by Check

As a Baronial Exchequer for nearly two years, I can say that fortunately there have only been 3 bad checks in the 2 years.  Unfortunately, two of them are still outstanding from Crown Tourney in May!  
 
Perhaps the solution to this problem might be as simple as a "black list" for bad checks, until they are paid.  A list of those individuals with outstanding NSF checks throughout the kingdom can be created and provided to autocrats/reservationists so they know who not to accept a check from until the prior obligation has been paid.  
 
This might seem harsh but I imagine it would be effective.  I certainly dont want to embarrass anyone, but when efforts have been made to collect the returned check with no avail, and then you see that person at an event five months later, it kinda makes you wonder.
 
Just a thought.

Five days before War of the Wings we had just over 400 reservations. We ended
up with 840 folks. Crown Tourney right now has very few pre-regs . . . are
people boycotting the event or are you all just planning to show up that
morning? It does make it very difficult to plan facilities and activities for
the event.

I'll make you a deal, Siegfried, for the next event I organize I'll
create a process for people to do just what you suggest . . . send me an e-mail
stating your intent to attend the event. After the event I'll compare the
List of Intention with the Gate Sheets and we'll have some numbers with
which to evaluate your suggestion.

If it gives a reliable 80 percent attendance, that is a tool that I know I
could use when planning. 

Then we can also evaluate the Bad Siegfried/Good Siegfried appellation . . .
Sound good?

A topic that comes up every now and then ... is the topic of 'non-paid'
reservations.

Though it doesn't get anywhere.

But basically, we are currently in an era, where 'Unless you live in
Ansterroa', due to BoD decisions, we cannot do any payment methods other
than check/cash/MO ... and in general nowadays, checks are 'annoying'
when everything is being handled electronically, automatic deposit,
automatic withdrawal, etc.

So many people (myself often included *bad Siegfried*) don't end up
getting around to pre-registering.

Planners then don't know how many people to expect.

Yet, many of those people (like myself *bad Siegfried*)  Do have an idea
of what events they are going to attend.

So the idea has been proposed, that in some cases, to allow (and
encourage) electronic "I'll be there" statements.   So that
people who
for 'whatever reason' aren't going to pre-reg, can at least have a
semi-official way of sticking themselves into the headcount.

Yup, maybe only 80% of those will really show up.   But that's ok, it's
still knowing whether you should expect 2400-3000, or 24-30

Anyway, I'll bring it up again.

OBVIOUSLY this would not be a way to 'stick yourself on the feast
list',
or any other 'limited' registration type thing.  In those cases.  Only
a
paid reservation should count.

But just as a way for the event planners to get a rough headcount to
expect.   Also, perhaps, as a benefit to their majesties, who I know
often use pre-reg data to see who will be in attendance at an event for
award/court purposes.

A reservationist could also save a little time, if they made themselves
a list of "email pre-reg", which had peoples mundane * sca names ...
no
writing it down required.
