[MR] Paying by Check

I have a corollary to that request. Is there a rule that checks for an
event cannot be cashed until after the event?

I usually pay in cash at the gate because I rarely write checks and
don't keep a bank book. When I pay with a check for an event, it almost
invariably takes several weeks before it is deposited. When I pay in
advance, I mail a check because it is so much easier than getting a
money-order. That may be laziness on my part, but I lead a very busy
life (don't we all?) Now since I very rarely use checks (a check card
is so much more convenient) so when a check that I have written gets
deposited a month later, I may have forgotten that I wrote it.
Thankfully, I am in the habit of keeping a reserve in my account for
such things, but it is startling.

However, I know it is very helpful to event planners, to get the
reservation and payment in advance of the event and I don't want to make
their lives harder. If payments can't be deposited within a week of
being received, I'll try to pay with money-orders in the future.
However, if you do receive a check, balance challenged people like me
would really appreciate them being deposited before we forget we wrote
them.

I know that the event staff are always overworked and I REALLY
appreciate all the effort for these wonderful events. Please, do NOT
take this as a criticism. I have NO idea, and can only imagine, how
much work it is and how many details go into an event.

If any of what I have here written causes any distress, I sincerely
apologize. The truth is, no event flyer has ever promised, to my
knowledge, swift processing of checks. I know how to avoid the suprise
check problem on my own lookout so no one out there owes me a fix. Just
something I wanted to bring up from the peanut gallery.

Thank you for listening.
