Greetings from the WoW target archery marshal.
We had a total of 69 people shoot for the archery war point this year! That
tops last year's count by 25, AND, I know there were a good number of archers
who never got around to shooting the war points because they were too busy
helping me run the range, or they were just having too darn much fun shooting
at other targets on the range. I was amazed at how many youth archers we had
too...and how well they are shooting!!
I know I went through 6 sheets of stickers, 20 stickers per sheet, (one
sticker I stuck on a little kids forehead) so that makes 119 bow inspected. A
few of those were loaner bows which were used by multiple individuals,
so...that means we had a HECK of a lot of archers come by the range this year!
I have an assortment of arrows gleaned from the range by Tim Arrowfinder and
others. I'll bring these arrows with me to upcoming events at which there
is archery, so you can claim them. The young lad (Cameron? from Windmasters
Hill) who misplaced his bow, fear not...it was found on the range along with a
few of your arrows and I will keep it safe until I can get it back to you. I
may even replace that string of yours! Great shooting by the way. (Watch
out for this young lad, fellow archers, for the night shoot he placed first in
the youth/beginner group but third in the adult group over all!)
Guntrum the Wayward placed first in the night shoot, followed by a tie for
second by Geldamar and Ommari and Wilhelm.
Edric Alricson placed first in the older youth division on Saturday and
Cameron placed first in the younger youth division. I'm looking forward to
following both of your archery careers!
Griffith Jenner outscored everyone on the war point tally by a good bit.
Also shooting well for war point were Davina of Crois Brigte, Christophe of
Grey, and Albrecht.
The Champion's shoot was won by Archer Bear of Black Diamond. Great
shooting!
I'd like to send my thanks to those of you who helped me on the range with
set up, tear down, running the line and bow inspections. It made my job much
easier, having so many competent and knowledgeable marshals assisting. I
promised my Lord, Tim Arrowfinder he wouldn't have to be chained to the archery
range this year, and thanks to all your help, he was able to authorize in
rapier and die at least 30 times on Saturday!
A special THANK YOU to Lady Ommari of Salesberie Glen who worked with the
new archers and ran the line, as well as assisted with the kids shoot. And
also to Lord Guntrum who ran the kids shoot, the Champion's Challenge and the
5-man team shoot. (That HUGE target was awesome!) Thanks to Christophe of Grey
who ran an evil prize shoot on Saturday. Also to Geldamar, Griffith, Sven,
Brian O'Brian, Hamish, Christophe, Cat from Windmasters Hill, Tor, Archer
Bear, Eirick, Ghijckijn, Alrick, and Davina (who made me eat and drink), and the
others I can't think of right now, who took a turn at bow inspections and
running the line and making archery at War of the Wings AWESOME!
Now...about that amazing gate we all walk through to get to the live weapons
range, as well as the double pendulum target which frustrated us at night,
and challenged us in day light. All the thanks and praise go to Wolfgang
Hackbarth (aka Homey Dave). He is an amazing craftsman and offers steadfast aid
in what ever needs to be done. The harder the work, the more he helps. Thank
you Wolfgang, for your outstanding construction projects and continued
support of the archery community.
I have run the archery at War of the Wings the past two years, and I think
it is time for me to take a break and let someone else have some fun. If you
are a marshal with event experience, please consider volunteering for this
privilege. I will gladly assist you in all the pre-event details, and aid you
within reason, during the event.
Until we meet on the line, shoot well, be safe, have fun.

"Every bow well bent. Every shaft well sent. Every stave well nocked.
Every string well locked.' There, with that jingle in his head, a bracer on his
left hand, a shooting glove on his right, and a farthing's-worth of wax in
his girdle, what more doth a bowman need?" (Sir Arthur Conan Doyle - The White
Company)
