I may have said this before but I agree with you Gise. That is why (hopefully) by spring I will be an MOL in addition to my Warrant as a herald at large. Ok so i am a crack smoking monkey who seeks dominion over all I survey but hey! If people are gonna give me that power I will take it! LOL! but back to reality some of these offices (Herald in particular) are just too easy to get involved with. all you have to do to keep a herald's warrant is attend 1 class a year! (I believe it is a year) That's it! and since most collegiums are free that means no cost to you! how simple is that!?! Seriously it is actually fun even if we call it the dreaded "W" word. Come on people try it! You might just like it!

I have been in this barony for three and a half years. In all that time there has been an a shortage of people willing to hold offices or to be warranted as at-large Heralds, MoLs and Marshals.

It is important to realize your limits, to not over-extend yourselves because failure to fulfill the duties of many offices can get the group suspended. However, with nearly 200 paid members in this barony and many others who are not members at this time, I find it difficult to believe we cannot come up with more then five people who are warranted MoLs.

I see the same names listed in the Regnum lists over and over. This might mean those people are dope smokin' crack monkeys who are gluttons for punishment or megalomaniacs seeking unfettered power over the populace AND ALL THEY SEE!!!!

~cough~ Ok, back to reality. It likely means that they are the people who see a need and take on the responsiblity  to make it possible for the rest to play. Seriously, folks, as my grandmother and many of yours, I'm sure, said frequently, Many hands make light work. 

Allowing the same few folks to carry the official weight of the baronial or canton operations is unfair. Expecting that someone else will provide the service at an event where they pay the same money you do to attend but they spend their time working is unfair. 

I know we have talent in this barony. I know we have very competant people in this barony. They may do their jobs so well that no one else even thinks of getting a warrant for that same job. Out of a sense of honor, not wanting to insinuate their service is not appreicated. 

I know there are people who would be willing but don't feel they are qualified. I promise you folks, if I could gather up the baronial books and figure out what was going on, anyone can. There's help, there's support. Don't let your fear keep you from stepping forward. Don't allow yourself to feel as though you're not part of the "right" crowd. There IS NOT RIGHT CROWD. Cuz if there is and as baronial seneschale I'm part of it, that means all y'all are part of it. I mean, really, I'm a damn Yankee and a child of the Eastern heresy for goshsake.

Truly, we need more people willing to step forward and shoulder the responsiblities of exchequer, seneschale, MoL, chronicler, herald or marshal. Even if it's only to have more people knowledgeable of the policies to support each other.

Please consider becoming an officer's deputy, taking the appropriate classes and getting warranted to serve in this very vital way. Be a hero. Be a champion. Be a warranted officer!
