Greetings all - especially those up north here in Carroll County, MD and
the Hanover, PA area.
They are repairing Railroad crossings up here this month. Signs have been
posted for repairs on the RR Crossing on MD rte 30 on the south end of
Hampstead on May 30, 31 and June 1.
So - figured posting suitable detour routes might be appreciated by those
coming South.
There are two routes you can follow:
For those not familiar with the area -
Coming South on MD 30 turn Right onto MD rte 27 South and follow it to
Westminster. From MD rte 27 get on MD rte 140 East and take that to I-795
South to the Baltimore Beltway. Returning North just retrace that route
I-795 North to 140 West to 27 north to Left on Rte 30 North.
For the adventurous -
Coming South on MD rte 30 into Hampstead follow 30 till you come to North
Houcksville Road (also marked for Rtes 88 & 137). ** This is the 3rd light
in Hampstead heading South. Turn Right on N.Houocksville Road and follow
it to Saint Paul Rd. Turn Left on St.Paul and follow it till you come to
Bortner Rd. This is more of a name change than a turn so just continue on
Bortner to MD rte 30. Turn Right on 30 and head South to routes I-795/140
and 128 and points South and East.
Attached is a link to the map.

Many folks find the MD 27 to MD 140 rte faster even though it adds another
15 or so miles to your route.
Feel free to share this with any list that might have folks coming down
from central PA to either On Target or the Northern Regional War Practice
on May 31st.
*** Please also note that these repairs are averaging 2 to 3 days to
complete so don't expect to run up 30 Saturday night and get through that
crossing - we just had the repairing the RR crossing at the bottom of my
road and that was a 2 day job on an easier crossing (no hill, no grade, no
steep drop offs on the sides)
Sain Morilaa,
Chagan - who lives 2 miles NE of Manchester and has 3 more RR crossings
between her and this one to be repaired!
