By all means yes!  There will be plenty of time to play with the engines and
shoot at targets without ever needing to put on armor (unless you would like
to).  As every engine is a little different, the builder/owner of each
engine will always teach the new crew members how to safely operate that
specific engine.

I know at the very least both of my engines will be on-site and looking for
additional crew.
