[MR] The most blatantly obvious mundane-stare ever

So we were on our way out to Erasmus (awesome event, BTW, really. We had an AMAZING time, especially with the bardic circle that night. Thanks especially to Their Royal Majesties, they really made the night for us. His Majesty has some hilarious stories!) and we stop to get some gas. I'm sitting in the back of the van with the door open, in full garb, and my feet propped up on the door jamb.

To be honest, after being in the SCA so long, it barely even fazes me to be the only one in garb in a public place anymore. I swear I often forget I'm dress in a way that might draw attention. I find it baffling that such attention was once considered fun to me in my wayward youth. Now, it rarely registers on my radar screen. Oh, well.

This regular guy in an SUV pulls up besides us and actually slows down, pauses, and he's giving me most drawn-out, blatantly obvious stare down anyone has ever given me in all my mundane-baiting youth and subsequent years of simply not caring who saw me in garb. I don't think the guy would have been more dumbfounded by my clothing if I had been wearing a rubber chicken suit. I mean, what, the guy has never seen anything but regular clothing? Never seen a trick or treater, a period movie, a play, or whatever? Sheesh. The guy was literally open-mouthed with suprise at my appearance. Really, I wasn't offended at his reaction, just kind of taken aback by his shock. Glad the rest of the gang was in regular street clothes, the guy would have fallen over in a faint if he'd seen the whole bunch of us dressed like freaks.

Really, with the common knowledge of such things as Ren Faires and such, most people don't even blink anymore, even where I live. If they do, it's more like, "Wow, nice costume, are you going to a Renn Faire?" or something. If they even say that.

Anyways, I just stared back. He was dressed funny.
