At a demo MANY years ago with other groups my viking mercenary persona
was recruited as a soldier in the Union Army by a Civ War enactor.
When I gave my birth date as '10 days before the winter solstice of
the year 946 of the Christian calender.' the recruiter asked if I
wanted an age deferment. I wanted to fight! He said that 'age
deferment' only meant that I'd get out of doing menial chores. I went
for it. We both had fun staying in our personae.
