Greetings to the lists,
I've had a few requests for workshops on making medieval books using
materials and techniques as close to period as possible, so to that end I'm
going to have a series of Saturdays over the next few months devoted to
making books. The first one will be a Saturday in April, and subsequent ones
every few weeks after that. The first day will cover board preparation, then
we'll move along to sewing the text block, attaching it to boards, covering
the boards, and possibly some very basic metal furnishings.
If you are interested in participating, email me offlist with the time
period of the book you would like to make (there were many large and small
variations based mostly on time period and to a lesser extent on geography),
and I'll send you a supply list of things you'll need. Plan on at least
three or four Saturdays at my house (in Roanoke, VA) plus some work on your
own.
Best wishes,
Aneira
