Greetings Scribes!

I would like to take this opportunity to announce that there will be a Scroll Blank Competition held at War of the Wings in October. The wonderful Atlantian scribes have provided the Kingdom with a vast amount of "ready to go" scrolls for use at events through scroll blank competitions held in the past. Having these blanks greatly reduces the number of scrolls that get put onto the backlog. There has not been a scroll blank competition held in a while and our supplies are dwindling! We need to replenish the portfolio to allow Their Majesties to present deserving award recipients with beautiful artwork to document their award!

Illuminators and Calligraphers warm up your tools and get busy!

The Rules:

1) Scrolls should be a "frame able size" (11x14, 8x10, etc.)

2) Entries must be actual scroll blanks with both calligraphy and illumination. Colored in promissory do NOT count as entries.

3) Beginner scribes : enter with non armigerous award scroll or AoA (except non pareil) Intermediate scribe: enter with AoA or grant level/high merit scroll Experienced scribe: High merit scrolls only The entrant will determine their own experience level based on their own criteria (however beginner scribes must have been doing scribal work less than 2 years.) Note: Blanks for armigerous awards NEED to have room left in the text for the arms of the recipient. (i.e. AoA or GoA. If you're not sure if an award is armigerous, please feel free to ask.)

4) Royals Names, Recipients Names, he/she, and dates should be left blank.

5) Calligraphy on the piece can be text from the Scribal Handbook or your own words as long as it conveys the meaning of the document.

6) Scribes may enter as a team. (An illuminator with a calligrapher) The team will be judged as a single entrant.

7) If you are an illuminator, and not a calligrapher, you can still enter, just be aware you may lose points for the lack of calligraphy on the blank.

8) Documentation is encouraged, but NOT required. (Documentation does count for a portion of points, but is not necessary for entry.)

9) There will be no entry limit, so bring us as many as you dare! Just remember, quality over quantity.

10) Display space may be EXTREMELY limited. Consider how you can display your work vertically!

Judging

1) You need not be present to enter or win. Please feel free to send entries with someone attending the event if you are unable to join us.

2) Orders of High Merit will be judged more strictly for quality and complexity

3) Teams will be judged as a single entrant.

4) Documentation does count for a small percentage of the points, but is not necessary for entry.

5) Each blank will be scored individually, and scores totaled cumulatively. (If the scribe enters three scrolls, each scroll is judged, but the total score will be all three tallies together.)

6) The scribe with the most points wins! Points are based off the quality, artistic merit, and "historical accuracy" of the pieces.

Each Entrant will receive a small thank you token for your gift to the Crown. There will be first, second, and honorable mention prizes and a special prize for the best "novice" scribe.

To qualify as a novice, you must have been doing scribal work for less than two years.

Pictures will be taken of all entries, and posted on Flickr.com after the event. A notice and link will be sent to the Merry Rose.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me.
