Good m'Lord,
Please find below my original missive which began these discussions. My
original intent was to show that all people are being affected by the gas
crisis (Royalty too), and I had hoped to spur Atlantia into being more green
in the way things are handled. I really am tired of people suspecting the
worst. I have no idea what went on before, but many seem to want to attach
nefarious reasons to the request. I think it is time for a real change, not
just endless discussions.

I would also echo these sentiments. I was Seneschal of a group affected by
the Principality movement most recently (TNNP) and can tell you from
meetings attended and conversations at the time, there was NOTHING nefarious
or unchivalrous in the motives of those people. They, in fact, did not want
to divide the Kingdom, only provide a Principality as an extension of TRM of
Atlantia to reduce some of the impact of needing to be at a large number of
events during a reign, and improve the 'spiff' factor. This would have
increased 'royal' representation, reduced the obligations on TRMs and,
potentially, reduced drives. At the time, the movement failed, in part,
because people not connected with it could not appreciate that no one wanted
to separate from Atlantia, but rather wanted to improve representation and
recognition.
If those same misunderstanding fuel this discussion, then the same kinds of
results and potentially hard feeling will result again. Much was said then,
not all of which was chivalrous to people who deserved better. Discussion
is a good thing, and it should bring about understanding, not animosity.

ORIGINAL MISSIVE:
Greetings,
I am writing to you today as a co-autocrat, and not as a Chatelaine. I feel
that it should be known that the Barony of Highland Foorde did put in a bid
for 12th Night, 2009, way before the deadline of June 1st, but our bid was
not accepted because we are considered to be too far away.
A couple of thoughts on this:
1. As a first time co-autocrat, I personally am very sad this has
happened. I am also sad on behalf of the other people of Highland Foorde
who were very excited about the possibility of holding our FIRST Kingdom
event.
2. I think we all know that in our mundane lives, the effect of gas prices
are not going to be alleviated in the near future. And from reliable
sources, this will be getting a lot worse for awhile. For Highland Foorde's
people in the western panhandle of Maryland, I believe it is approximately a
10 hour trip to get to most of the events in Southern Atlantia. That's a lot
of time and money to invest.
Maybe a couple of choices for Atlantia to be more green would be; a) either
find one or two permanent locations for *Kingdom *Events (Crown, Unevent.
etc.) somewhere in the *middle *of Atlantia, or b) we need to look at
beginning a new Kingdom.
Many of us are not made of money, and I know for some it is getting harder
to attend events that are not in their own 'back yard'.
I think it is time to come up with some real solutions that would benefit
everyone.
