This missive, posted to the Keep in Windmasters' Hill, bears reading
and consideration by all and is forwarded by request to that end.

Unto the puissant Baron, Gaston Du Valmont, the valiant Baroness, Dame
Rosalind Delamere, & the good and noble folk of the mighty Barony of
Windmasters’ Hill doth the Honorable Lady Jocetta Thrushleigh, quondam
resident and citizen in perpetuity of the same send respectful and
affectionate greetings.
Noble Excellencies and Good People, it hath come to mine ears that you
shall be shortly hosting a Pas in which you shall defend le Foret
Mysterieux from all that shall chose to come against ye. And in respect
of which, I now crave of you hearing that ye shall grant unto me a boon.
Many folk may know that but a few years back I was stricken with a fell
disease, oft called the nun’s disease for that so many of the good
sisters fall prey to this illness. With God’s grace and through the
help of many I am now well and truly healed.
In gratitude for my deliverance to witness next month a full half
century of years upon the earth, I shall on All Hallow’s Eve embark on
a great pilgrimage. In the space of three days I shall walk threescore
miles collecting alms in aid of those similarly stricken, that this
evil may in future be banished from this earth.
I most especially dedicate my pilgrimage to the memory of our fellow
citizen, Lady Geva de Lilles. I do this in humble but fitting tribute
to a great lady whom this selfsame malady stole untimely from our
company on the feast of St. Valentine but two years past. She first
drew breath in the same year as myself and we shall mark our two score
and tenth natal anniversary year together as her spirit buoys my weary
flesh upon my journey.
In especial request, I beg any that feel so moved, be they tenans or
venans, to make wager of their skill in benefit of mine efforts, that
by their prowess and the inspiration of their consort's beauty and
grace, this scourge may sooner be dismissed from this world through the
charity of their hearts.
I pray ye also that you might have this missive read to all comers on
the day of said great tourney that all may know of this my plea.
Accept now my humble thanks for granting this audience unto myself,
your humble servant.
Writ by my hand on the ninth day of June in the forty-third year of Our
Society, being the year 2008 by the common reckoning.
As translated into modern English:
Hi Everyone:
This is Jocetta, who used to live in Windmasters. A lot of you know me,
some of you don’t. I’m a breast cancer survivor. To celebrate my
recovery and mark my upcoming 50th birthday on July 31st - I am
definitely not old enough to be this old - I’m going to be walking in
the 3 Day Walk raising money to benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure and
the National Philanthropic Trust, organizations dedicated to
eradicating breast cancer. The Tampa Bay Walk will be held
10/31/08-11/2/08. I’ll be walking in memory of Lady Geva de Lilles
(mka Ginger Liles) and all the other women whom breast cancer has taken
away from us far too soon.
I think it would be really cool if at the Pas ya’ll want to challenge
each other to donate towards my walk. I also think it would be cool if
anyone feels like donating for any reason whatsoever!
You can make the donations online through my 3 Day Foundation website.
I have a forward to it set up from www.pobox.com/~jocetta If you want
to donate by check, there’s a downloadable donation form on the website
as well. Details of the walk are on the website – stop by and check it
out.
Wish I could make it up to the Pas with you all, it sounds like a blast!
Thanks to you all from down here in Trimaris,
Jocetta
PS If someone would like to forward this to the Merry Rose for
non-Windmasters’ folk to read, that would be a help, thanks!
