>>>So, I have heard that if a person does art and wants to be a Laurel or if
a
person does service and wants to be a Pelican someday, people have been know
to say “The only reason they do XXX is to become a peer” BUT, a person is
not faulted if they fight and say “I plan to be a Knight someday”. Why is
that?

--- Wow!! I am a knight aspirant. I wear my red belt to let everyone know
it. Protégés are taken to demonstrate their desire to aspire in their chosen
field. It is obvious by these actions that the candidate is demonstrating at
least two things, a desire to learn and a desire to one day represent that
particular area of interest within the Society.

Personally, I can't agree with the statement that "a person is not faulted"
for wanting to be a Knight. I have been told "the only reason I do the
things I do is to one day be knighted", my courtesy has been challenged with
comments like "it's all and act", and my favorite "I'm fake". So........ I
would say the contrary in particular with the path of Knighthood.

Rest assured, no matter what color my belt is I will continue to conduct
myself knightly, be courteous in my manner and forthright in my bearing.

>>>I have noticed a lot of trash being left on the field after people remove
their pavilions which makes for a more time consuming cleanup for the event
staff. We can all do our part by picking up our own trash (and that
includes cigarette butts).

--- this sounds perfectly period to me. Well, accept for the cigarette
stuff. I'm amazed it's an issue.

>>>*Why don't more events hold youth/page A&S competitions? If we are going
to
legitimately call this a family activity, we need to provide opportunities
for our children to participate. My daughter routinely makes A&S displays
and sometimes has had to compete against adults as there were no youth
contests. At every event I am going to through the end of our reign, either
I or Princess Royal Katherine will be willing to sponsor a youth A&S
competition. Anyone under age 16. Please let me know in advance so I can
arrange to bring a prize.

--- very touchy subject with me. I am thankful for Your Majesties efforts in
this area and will miss it when you leave. I love the pearl led idea......

Yours.
Matthew of Battle
