In general  I agree that adults need to assume responsibility for their own feeding and watering. However children are another matter.   I have treated children for dehydration and heat related issues in another kingdom where heat tends to be a very serious problem. Having the resources and trained personnel available can be life saving.

Wheather the powers that be decide to withdraw the "official" blessing or not, I hope common sense prevails.  Having adequate supplies of water in clean containers available for the comfort, and at times safety, of the populace seems reasonable.

On the flip side---I think most northern fighters are familiar with the water bottles I order and use.  I try to eliminate "Back wash" and other unhealthy things.  I try to take along enough squeeze bottles that if I see someone not squeeze the bottle and have physical contact,  I can retire the bottle for the day.  However, the water bearers at Pennsic decided that the squeeze bottles and sprayers I use are inferior to their equipment.  Their equipment being gallon jugs that have had a hole drilled in the screw on top and plastic tubing (that will most certainly be used by multiple people) inserted in the hole.  Go figure.

Just goes to show you can't protect from stupidity.
