I would be that other merchant with a donation jar.  I will also have a small table of handmade items (from various folks) next to the donation jar.  Any money garnered from the sale of those items will go directly into that jar.  I have also made several sturdy felt four leaf clovers (part of his device) that will sell for a donation of a dollar apiece.
