Rare Mungoe words on Merry Rose
The whole issue that started this discussion is money. It dredged up some old feelings and thoughts about a Principality, but the real issue is the mighty dollar. Even if you split the kingdom down the middle, you are still going to have issues of cost as long as the gas prices are high. I live in Marinus, about as far east as you can go in the Kingdom. Even if a event is in Virginia, my state of residence, such as Assestment, it is on the other side of the state and can be a 5-7 hour drive depending on exactly were those evil college kids deside to have it. (Swear to AllFAther, cow pasture once, HE HE!) So a Principality would realy not help me in most cases as far as the cost.

Unfortunaly(or fortunatly), we are a society of free spirits and dreamers, not the sort that likes to budget and plan things out. Having been a autocrate a few times, I have had events I thought no one would show up for as we had very few pre reg's. Day of the event, 80-100 people show up "at the last minute." That is part of our subculture which is the SCA.
A lot of us are not employed in high pay jobs for one reason or the other. Pay check to pay check, been there done that. Some live in very high income areas. (Wow, DC scares me!) every one is hurting, this brings out the worse in all of us. We are looking at Change, which everyone hates.
So, unfortunalty, all of have to plan things out better, regardless of the whole principality issue. I do not foresee the economy getting better anytime soon, that is going to have a large impact on our little hobbie. We have a choice, get negative or whinny about it, or stand together and help each other out.
I mean, you want to come cut my grass for the cost of a event, hell yea! Labor for cost works. Share cost for food, our Baroney did Stone Soup at Saphire and it was a real hit. See someone going hungry, feed em. Hospitality is period, dammit. Car pool, chariot pool, whatever it takes. THis can be a opportunity to bring the Kingdom more together. Keep it Simple, be proactive, and we can keep our dream alive for all. (god I read corny)
