[MR] Event Bids and locations

Mistress Kiri,

Your words are well spoken, and my husband reminds me of just that
event. My apologies for having forgotten it, and thank you for your
reminder as well.

You mention though, about the fear that the Northern part of the
Kingdom would forget about the Southern part of the kingdom. Isn't
that exactly what is happening here? A Northern group has stepped
forward with a viable option for 12th night, no other bids were
presented, and yet the bid was rejected and the deadline extended.

It is no secret that the fighters in the southern part of our fair
Kingdom are fierce fighters. Many of our Kings have come from the
south, at least since I have been able to play locally in the last 4
years (prior to which I was a nomad due to mundane reasons despite
maintaining a dwelling in Atlantia). When we have a northern King or
Queen, we see the Royalty in the North. When we have a Southern King,
we don't see them as often. The plain simple fact of the matter is
that being King (and Queen) is expensive, and having to travel to the
far ends of the Kingdom makes that cost worse. I have seen a few
cases in the past few years where a Southern King chose a Northern
Consort - and that seemed to work quite well. They were able to
share responsibility and split up for events, allowing TWO events on
the same weekend to see Royalty.

My point is not that Southern Kings and Queens don't come North,
though. My point is that with the cost of everything rising so
quickly it makes sense to at least talk about this. I am sure that a
large can of worms has been opened, but it is something that has been
muttered about in at least 4 northern groups that I know of. Nobody
wanted to be the person to step forward and say "Hey, can we talk
about this?". If the Kingdom were only a 4 hour drive across, instead
of 11 hours, people would be more likely to go to events, and by
having a second set of Royalty for the North, the Royals would not
have to spend quite so much money and time in travel.

Case in point - Highland River Melees is one of the largest non
Kingdom Level events in Atlantia. The following weekend is
Assessments in Black Diamond. The appearance is that their Majesties
were forced to choose between the events because it is so far to come
up north for them, and since Assessments really sort of NEEDS the King
in order to assess the army, the choice seems obvious. In their
shoes, I would probably have made the same choice. But if the kingdom
were smaller, it would not be as much of an issue, in my opinion.

At any rate, that's pretty much what I have to say on the topic. I am
sure our boxes are about to inundated with discussion of this, since
the can was already opened. Let's all try to be civil about it.

And please note - NONE of my commentary is meant to be accusatory or
finger pointing or any such thing. It is meant as observation and how
I, and I alone, perceive the situation.
