I have been asked a few questions as to what to expect.
Try to remember that part of what makes a pas d'armes special for
many is the pomp and circumstance. So, please try to clean up your
armour and bring out your banners. The SCA has as wide range of time
periods we allow people to portray. Rather than having everyone conform
to what would be "proper" for the 14th-15th century, we ask everyone to
dress up your personal kit in the way that is proper for your persona.
Before participating in the tournament, all combatants must be found
to be acceptable for entry. This shall be proven with a procession of
all combatants and their consorts including their herald and footmen, if
they wish.
After the combatants are presented, the Pas will start. Defenders
(tenans) will hold one side of the field, and challengers (venans) the
other. There will be a marshal/herald on the challenger's. This person
will facilitate the challenger's entry onto the field. Therefore, if you
are a challenger and wish to enter the field, you need to do so from
that person's position.
You may enter the field as many times as you wish. But, please
remember that we a limited amount of field space and lots of people. So,
please fight your passes and then leave the field when you are done. You
do not need to report the results of your passes to anyone.
This scenario will continue until time runs down. We will then clear the
field and set up for melee combat.
This is a vary basic overview of how we hope things will run. If you
have any questions feel free to ask me.
