Greetings all,

Here is the information you need if you are planning to participate in
the equestrian activities at Hero's Portion.

Hero's Portion Cavalry Info Packet

Event: Hero's Portion, Barony of Marinus
Dates: June 27-29
Horses may arrive no earlier than 3 pm June 27 and need to be off-site
by 5 pm June 29.
Site: Camp Skyanchor
Address: 8627 Colonial Trail West
Spring Grove, VA 23881

No alcohol. Pets allowed, but must be on leash or caged (or high
line/picket or enclosure for horses). Clean up after your pets/
horses.

See the event flyer at http://acorn.atlantia.sca.org - go to the June
events and click on Hero's Portion. Event fees need to be sent to the
autocrat, Bert Hellar at 101 Douglas Ave, Portsmouth, VA 23707 or
mungoe1 at msn.com. This includes fees for horses of $2.00 per horse for
the weekend.

There is supposed to be a more detailed flyer on the Marinus web page,
but it may not be posted yet.

If you are bringing a horse, there is plenty of room to camp with your
horse along the far edge of the cavalry field. The field is lined with
trees so plenty of places for high line tying and picketing. Trailers
can be parked next to your campsite or your horses, used for high
lines, or put in parking lot.

Contact Brandy if you think you need a stall for off-site. There may
be some available around 30 minutes away from the site on a limited
basis and pre-arranged.

Rental horses: none available at this time. Check the horse and hound
list before the event to see if any will be available at the event.
Contact the Marshal of the Horse if you would like to ride to let her

Pick Your Hero Tournament:

This tournament is designed to boost the confidence of the novice SCA rider.

Experienced riders will pick a novice rider to pair up with. Each
rider will make one set through each of the games, un-timed. Scores
for both riders in a team will be added together and the team with the
most points wins.
One set consists of:
One pass through the Beheading the Enemy, One pass through the reed
chop drill, two passes around the double quintains, three passes to
stick a piggy (only one piggy allowed per pass) and two passes down
the ring standards.

In case of an unequal number of riders, the Marshal of the Horse will
designate one rider to compete twice with different teammates. The
scores of those teammates will be the deciding factor on which team
wins should either of them be in the top two places.

Modifiers will be used for the different gaits (multipliers of 1, 1.5
and 2 for walk, trot, canter) to ensure fairness between riders
competing at different gaits.

Rings: Walk x 1, Trot x 1.5, Canter x 2
Heads: Walk x 1, Trot x 1.5, Canter x 2
Quintain: Walk x 2, Trot x 1.5, Canter x 1
Pigs: Walk x 1, Trot x 1.5, Canter x 2
Reeds: Walk x 1, Trot x 1.5, Canter x 2

Riders should try to compete at the same gait in each game.

Spectators will be encouraged to give a "favor" to their favorite
rider and cheer for their team.

Race for the Hero's Portion Tournament (IKEQC)

The Inter-Kingdom Equestrian Competition scores will be recorded
during this tournament. The IKEQC games being played will be the
Beheading the Enemy at 21 feet, Ring Joust at 21 feet and Reed Chop
Drill at 21 feet (21 feet is the distance between each of the poles in
each game). Only these three games will be counted towards the IKEQC
scores. The Beheading the Enemy game will be timed as per the IKEQC
regulations.

In addition to the above games, the riders will also do the double
quintain and the pig sticking.

Each rider will enter the ring one at a time, starting at one end of
the arena and go through each of the games across the arena until they
have made one pass on each game. There will not be any "do-overs"
(meaning you will get one shot at each game and that is it. If your
horse breaks the pattern, or something does not go like you wanted it
to, you will not be able to stop and restart that game. Just keep
going.)

Each rider will be timed for the entire course.

Scores will be based on the points made and the fastest time for the
entire course. The same modifiers will be used for walk, trot, canter
as above in the Pick your hero tournament.

If time allows, riders may practice the games after this tourney
before the jousting demo to correct any issues they may have had
during the tournament.

Prizes will be given for the winning team of the Pick Your Hero
tournament and for the top three scores in the Race for the Hero's
Portion tournament.
