> I would love to hear from some who have an SCA web page.
http://HouseBarra.com
Once upon a time I lived in a shire that was...well, not very nurturing,
to put it politely. I had information I wanted to share and nobody was
showing up to classes I was teaching. I knew if I didn't get it out
somehow I would burst! So I formed a household, and then the website.
> Do you feel it has reached your intended audience?
Absolutely. It's even brought me back in touch with long-lost friends.
> Has it been a labor of love or frustration?
Sometimes both, but mostly love. It's a wonderful way to express my
'Monkishness' (slight touch of OCD) since I write out all the code...I
never use any web-page writing programs. Sometimes it's a chore, when I
simply don't feel like putting up a page or adding information but I do it
anyway because someone asked me about a project. Kind of like when mom
used to make me clean my room; I'd hate doing it but when it was done it
would feel better.
> (ie. How do you handle copyright issues?)
If it wasn't written by me and I know who did, I make sure I've given
credit. If I don't know who wrote it, I've gotten by for several years by
assuming it's public game. Every once in a while I get an email from the
author or someone who knows the author, so I amend the page immediately.
Where I feel appropriate, I have advised about copyright stuff (i.e.,
don't use for profit, contact the author, etc).
Only once have I had a copyright issue, that was with a drawing of a
period shoe that a company claimed ownership of. Yeah, I had the same
opinion, but laws are laws. I ended up removing the link for the drawing.
> All in all, why did you do it?
See 1rst paragraph. It's grown over the years, it started out as just a
couple of pages & grew to house a multitude of projects, two newsletters,
and a little section of non-sca stuff. There are files I use (easier &
safer than storing them on my system at home) and there are links to other
sites that I can't live without. A place to share photos and provide
clipart for myself & others. I really get a lot of satisfaction from
learning, sharing and teaching through the website. Oh, and it's an easy
way for other folks to find me! lol
