[MR] Do these things work?

Hi there,
Essentially it's a 12-volt fan blowing cool air off the ice in the cooler.
I imagine you'd get the same results from a bowl of ice sitting behind an
electric fan. Definitely not conducive for Pennsic; I can certainly see it
if you were going on a fishing trip, it's hot, you're sittin' on the
tailgate of your SUV with the radio blarin' Toby Keith & tossin' back
beers with your buddies. (sounds fun actually, can I go?)
Just a note about 12-volt appliances designed to be used in vehicles: the
battery will completely drain overnight unless the vehicle is running.
Found that out the hard way with a small cooler a few years ago. And just
because you turn off the engine doesn't mean it turns off the cooler!
Boat batteries last longer, but it really isn't worth the trouble. I
explored that idea some time back with all sorts of option ideas.
Generators just make a *really* lot of noise.
The best thing I've come up with is dormer windows. That, and a plan for a
wind-up ceiling fan...haven't really cemented that idea yet, but it could
feasibly be run by clock counter-weights. Gears and rocks are period!
I could see the cooler thing working if you had a 2-man pup tent & it was
only for a few hours, provided the battery is not also connected to your
vehicle (unless you want to walk home).
I know it's discouraging to find something that seems like a great idea
but isn't rated for our purposes...but it also makes us start thinking
about other possibilities. As they say, necessity is the mother of
invention--and that's the fun part!

for Pennsic, and best of all, you can still use your ice chest for beer!
